What I hope to get out of AS Media

Media production includes any type of communication, entertainment or information that is able to reach a wide range of people. Media production refers to the professional creation of such content. This means that the public are able to find out anything due to media. This can include music shows, magazines and TV shows. To me this means that I am able to find out information in a way that interests me, also it means that it is an interesting way to be entertained.

The areas of media I am interested in are films, TV shows and magazines. I am interested in films as the uses of techniques make me want to watch them more. For example in films the way that the producers use music to suggest how you should be feeling throughout the scene makes it more dramatic. Also TV shows mean that I able to find out what is happening in the world. For example by watching American TV shows it lets me find out how teenage life if like over there. Magazines means that I am able to read about things that I am interested in as there is a variety of different genres of magazines. The type of magazines I like to read is fashion and beauty, these interest me as I am able to see what is going on celebs life and able to get beauty tips from top stylists.

The strengths I already have are that I did GCSE Film and Media; therefore I am able to use things that I learnt to help me with my A-Level Media. This means that I also have covered the basic terminology which enables me to concentrate on the new terminology that I learn in A-Level. Also another strength I already have is that I’ve already done an exam in Media which means I already know how to manage my time whilst watching the clips and making effective notes. Another thing that is a strength is that because I have already done an exam on Media I am able to know what parts of the exam are my weak spots therefore I am able to work on them.

I hope to develop skills and knowledge that I don’t already know. This may consist of the new terminology that I didn’t learn in GCSE Media. Also I need to practice my exam techniques as I haven’t done an exam in Media for a while therefore I need to make sure that my strengths that I mentioned are still my strengths. I also need to be able to learn how to use different shots and angles to produce the best opening scene I am able too. I also need to learn how to use editing to help complete my coursework.

My ultimate aim for this course is to be able to remember the terminology. This then means I am able to use the terminology in my exam in the end which will enable me to get a good grade. That will be able to contribute to my UCAS points for university.
